by July 26, 2024On Friday, 26th of July 2024, starting at 16:30, the gates of the ARTmania festival’s 17th edition open bringing music and arts fans 3 days of concerts, 14 international and Romanian bands and a series of cultural events, creative activations and awards.
At ARTmania Festival 2024, taking place between 26th – 28th of July, music lovers will get the chance to listen live to some of the most loved international and Romanian bands in the Main Square of the old fortress of Sibiu: Borknagar (NO), Korn (USA), Igorrr (FR), Spiritbox (USA), Satyricon (NO), The Flower Kings (SE), Lavina (SRB), Alpha Q (RO), Awake the Demons (RO) and TAINE (RO).
The third day of the festival (Sunday, 28th of July), unfolded under the “ARTmania in Context” umbrella, brings together interdisciplinary collaborations and music. Fans with 3 day festival passes will enjoy, at Altemberger House – Museum of History, concerts offered by: Alternosfera (MD), REVOLTER (RO), Denorm (MD) and SPD (MD).
ARTmania Festival and Cărturești continue their collaboration this year as well, offering young and young in spirit music and book lovers vinyls, games and books
At the Cărturești corner: ARTmania book enthusiasts will be able to relax and check the titles brought by Cărturești and will be able to buy from the varied offer of books for both children and adults or games specially sellected by our Cărturești friends.
ARTmaniacs will also have the opportunity to buy albums of famous bands, including ones belonging to some of the bands present at this year’s edition.
Documentary “Music Ambassadors” offered by the UAME (Ukrainian Association of Musical Events) team for movie lovers
Moviegoers will be able to watch, for free, the documentary “Music Ambassadors”, brought by the Music Saves Ukraine team.
The emotional footage captures the current reality, the visits made to Ukraine’s conflict zones and the first-hand impressions of some of the founders of major European festivals and leading figures of the international music industry. It also presents the current situation of the conflict zone and current life of Ukrainian cultural and music professionals.
The screening of the documentary will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (26th – 28th of July 2024), starting at 13:00 in the screening room of the House of Arts – ASTRA Museum (Casa Artelor), in the Small Square (21 Small Square, Sibiu). Participation is free of charge for ARTmania participants on the basis of the festival wristband and possible within the limits of available places.
People who wish to support those still in conflict zones are also invited to visit the Music Saves UA stand on the festival perimeter to find out more about the Music Saves Ukraine fundraising campaign, the situation in the region and how they can get involved.
In the “Music Saves Ukraine” area, festival-goers will be able to see an exhibition of photographs by Kostiantyn and Vlada Liberovy, two famous Ukrainian war photographers, and an exhibition of drawings, Two Years of War through the Eyes of the Young, by children from the town of Borodyanka in Ukraine.
In exchange for a donation, visitors can also receive merchandise in unique designs (from jewelry to t-shirts, pins or socks) or immortalize their memories of the two-day festival in the Main Square with the help of the photo booth. And the VR activities prepared by the association’s team will get participants excited, giving them the opportunity to show off their skills and have fun with friends in a new way, through a truly immersive experience.
Music Saves UA is a fundraising initiative launched by the Ukrainian Association of Musical Events (UAME) to provide immediate humanitarian aid to the people in Ukraine who need it most, by harnessing the power of music, unity and empathy. In addition to the much-needed fundraising activities, the association also strives to raise awareness about the war in Ukraine and to promote Ukrainian music and culture.
Throughout their existence, from donations raised with the help of communities, Music Saves UA has delivered over 720 tons of humanitarian aid, helped over 44,000 people and evacuated over 20,300 people from war hot spots and frontline cities in Ukraine.
Exhibitions and museum visits.
To make the cultural experience complete, in between the concerts participants with a festival wristband will have free access to the exhibition spaces of the ASTRA National Museum Complex and to events for children or adults organized by the ASTRA Museum on festival days – full details here.
Also, festival-goers will have a 50% discount on exhibition tickets or for visiting the museums which are part of the Brukenthal National Museum, namely: the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Gallery of European Art (Brukenthal Palace), the Romanian Art Gallery, the History Museum (Altemberger House), the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Pharmacy or the “August Von Spiess” Hunting Museum.
General access rules to ARTmania Festival 2024 for the general public
Access
Public access to the perimeter of the festival will be possible in the Main Square on Friday and Saturday (26th – 27th of July 2024) from 16:30 – 00:00. The marathon of concerts on the two stages in the Large Square will start on Friday, 26th of July, at 19:00 and Saturday, 27th of July, at 17:25.
The third day of the festival (Sunday, 28th of July), unfolded under the “ARTmania in Context” umbrella, will bring music and interdisciplinary cultural collaborations at the Altemberger House stage. Alternosfera (MD), REVOLTER (RO), Denorm (MD) and SPD (MD) will perform at the Altemberger House – Museum of History for the 3-day festival pass holders, access starting from 18:00.
To enter the festival area, the public must present a valid day ticket, festival pass or invitation (that can only be used by one person, one time only) at one of the ARTmania Ticket Swap points. These will be exchanged for an RFID festival wristband which will grant access to the festival perimeter and will make possible payments for products available inside the festival (except in the Cărturești area, where payment can be made in cash or by card).
The wristband allows entry to the festival area and only to the concert area and ARTmania Festival related events, depending on the day ticket or the type of pass associated with the wristband.
The ARTmania Ticket Swap points (appropriately signposted) will be open:
- Thursday, 25th of July, between 15:00 – 21:00
- Friday and Saturday (26th and 27th of July) from 12:00 – 00:00
Given the high participation rate for this year’s edition, ARTmania Festival 2024 participants are encouraged to come as early as possible in advance (from Thursday, 25th of July) to have their day ticket/ festival pass/ invitation exchanged with an RFID wristband, regardless of the regime of the day ticket/ festival pass/ invitation.
The RFID wristband must be worn throughout the festival and will be checked both at the entrance and inside the festival. Breakage, damage or loss of the wristband will invalidate the holder’s right to participate and access to the festival. Re-entry will require the purchase of a new ticket and the exchange of the ticket into a new wristband. The wristbands are not transferable to another person and allow access only to the areas marked accordingly.
ARTmania Festival participants have to submit to a brief body check and to allow baggage checks. Participants must carry a valid identity document to prove their legal age.
Large luggage, backpacks or bulky backpacks are not allowed. Luggage dimensions are 50 cm (length) x 30 cm (height) x 20 cm (width).
The organizers reserve the right to prohibit the access of violent persons, in an advanced state of intoxication or of participants under 16 years old unaccompanied by an adult. Also, the organizers reserve the right not to allow access to the festival to those who refuse security control or to persons who are suspected of endangering other participants or the proper running of the festival.
Children up to 12 years of age who have been pre-registered by a parent/ legal guardian (extended registration deadline was 17th of July 2024) have free access to the festival perimeter if accompanied by a parent/ legal guardian with a valid day ticket/ festival pass, proof of age of the child. It is recommended that children under the age of 10 wear protective headphones or earplugs.
Organizers do not encourage the presence of very young children at such events, where the decibel limit could have a negative effect on children’s hearing, which is why which is why access with prams is prohibited.

Access for young participants between 12 and 18 years of age is granted on the basis of a valid ticket/ festival pass and is only allowed if accompanied by an adult with a valid day ticket/ festival pass/ invitation and a parental consent (declaration for minors) filled in and signed by a parent or legal guardian. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for the safety of the children, the organizers are not responsible for any incidents.
Only persons over 18 years of age have the right to purchase alcohol, so it is mandatory for participants to present, upon request, a valid identity card.
It is forbidden to access with blunt or dangerous objects, knives, any kind of glass containers (including perfume or cream bottles) or metal, sprays (including self-defense sprays), plastic drums , cans, beverage cans, chairs, normal or foldable, banners supported by sticks, lasers, Chinese lanterns, strollers, skateboards, scooters, bicycles, motorcycles, etc., foldable umbrellas / umbrellas (we recommend the use of rain capes) and any kind of substances prohibited by law. Access to medicines is allowed only on the basis of the corresponding medical prescription.
Access with illegal substances or other materials that may be considered dangerous for the smooth running of the event or that may endanger the well-being of the participants is also prohibited.
Access with pets is not allowed within the festival perimeter.
Note for photography enthusiasts.
Access with cameras of any kind is allowed, including professional DSLR.
Access for people with DSLR cameras will be only through the entrance to the festival from Nicolae Bălcescu (through the gate from the Nicolae Bălcescu street).
Access with any kind of tripods, detachable flashes, cameras and other accessories, especially large ones, will remain prohibited. Entering the festival grounds with valuables or leaving them in the care of others remains the sole responsibility of the owner.
Photography is allowed only without flash and without disturbing the smooth running of the event or the spectators present at the festival.
Bringing food and drink into the festival area remains prohibited. The ARTmania Festival will provide participants with a specially set up food area, ARTmania Tastes, which will be open for the duration of the event. Those arriving in Sibiu’s Main Square will be able to enjoy food and drink areas.
Fast and easy payments directly with your festival wristband – a simpler and more convenient experience
At ARTmania, payments at the festival stands are easier and faster this year with the help of Banca Transilvania, the festival partners. Participants will be able to enjoy festival services and products by paying directly with the festival RFID wristband, part of a convenient, cashless payment system, which they will also use to access the festival perimeter and partner venues.
The RFID wristbands, which will also be used to gain access to the ARTmania festival perimeter in the Large Square or in the announced partner venues (like the Altemberger House – Museum of History), will be offered to each participant at the ARTmania wristband exchange points (called ” ARTmania Ticket Swap” points) based on the festival pass or day ticket purchased for this year’s edition.
The RFID wristbands can be loaded, with cash or bank card, at the charging points signposted for this purpose (the “TOP-UP” points around the festival perimeter).

In the perimeter of the festival, in the Large Square, there will be 10 RFID wristband charging and recharging points.
The schedule of the TOP UP points is:
- Friday, 26th of July 2024 (1 TOP-UP point): 13:00 – 02:00
- Friday, 26th of July 2024 (9 TOP-UP points): 16:30 – 02:00
- Saturday, 27th of July 2024 (1 TOP-UP point): 13:00 – 02:00
- Saturday, 27th of July 2024 (9 TOP-UP points): 16:30 – 02:00
- Sunday, 28th of July 2024 (1 TOP-UP point) in the Large Square for refund only: 09:00 – 12:00
For festival-goers with 3-day passes, on Sunday, 28th of July, 1 TOP-UP point will be available at the Altemberger House – Museum of History, part of the Brukenthal National Museum, for loading and refund: 18:00 – 00:00.
Balance check
The available balance can be checked using the RFID card (attached to the wristband) at the existing reading terminals at the feestival’s TOP-UP points or at any of the vendors and partners present in the festival perimeter which have installed these reading terminals (food and beverage outlets, official merchandise tent).
Refund
Festival participants can retrieve the remaining balance on their RFID wristband only on festival days when there are concerts in the Large Square (Friday – Sunday) or at the Altemberger House – History Museum (Sunday for 3-day pass holders) during the above-mentioned times, from the TOP UP points.
After the end of the performances on the Large Square on each festival day, the TOP-UP points will no longer be able to accept the top-up of the wristbands, but only the refund of the amount on the wristbands.
Final date for withdrawal of the existing balance on the RFID bracelet, amounts to be refunded in cash:
- at the TOP-UP points in the Large Square: is 28th of July 2024, until 12:00;
- at the TOP-UP point at the Altemberger House – Museum of History (for 3-day passes holders): 28th of July, 00:00,
after which time the TOP-UP points on the festival perimeter will close.
To get a refund, the person requesting it must present the RFID wristband and make sure that it does not show any signs of compromise.

Not respecting these festival rules and regulations may result in restricted access or evacuation from the event perimeter.
