About the tour
Started in Bergen, the “black metal capital of Norway”, Borknagar appeared on the music scene in 1994 by Øystein Brun (former member of the death metal band Molested). Started out as a pure black metal band, Borknagar continued to explore the more melodic sides of metal, constantly evolving and shifting more towards progressive side of the rock and metal universe.
Over the past three decades, Borknagar have traversed a variety of thought-provoking topics, inspired by philosophy and nature for example, themes included on no less than 11 albums, like “The Olden Domain” (1997), “Empiricism” (2001) and Winter Thrice (2016). Conceptually, the overarching themes have been universal. Still, the sub-surface was almost always personal to the band’s many lyricists, including but not limited to Brun, Hestnæs, Nedland, and former vocalist Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund.
Whereas “True North” (2019) posited the idea of a compass upon Borknagar’s legion of devotees, “Fall” (launched this year, 2024) changes direction to a season-based approach. “«Fall», in a way, is the change of the seasons as we know them, but it’s also about universal struggle. Life is a struggle. If you live in the wildness, jungles, or the outskirts of existence (opposite of what I’d call the comforts of civilization), nature will do everything to put you back into the ground. The core of «Fall» is the struggle against nature. Surviving nature. The album title connects with the artwork, the music, and lyrical content—the album title, Fall, sums up everything”, says Brun. And at ARTmania Festival 2024, fans will have the chance to experience live and intense and memorable show offered by Borknagar!
